Grain Freedom is a nonprofit private foundation dedicated to serving the celiac and dietary-restricted community.

We believe nutrition equity means having the freedom, dignity, and access to food that supports health and well-being.

We raise awareness, create meaningful conversations, and support individuals and families navigating celiac disease and food allergies. Our work includes helping those who are newly diagnosed, donating gluten-free and top 9 allergy-friendly food to local food banks, advocating for food equality, supporting summer camps that provide safe meals for children, and funding efforts to help find a cure.

We believe some of life’s most meaningful moments happen around a table, and no one with a diet-related condition should feel excluded from that experience.

So gather together and share. Break gluten-free bread with glad and generous hearts, y’all.

Our history

When our daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease at just two years old, we had no idea how life-changing the diagnosis would be for our entire family.

When our daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease at just two years old, we had no idea how life-changing the diagnosis would be for our entire family.

Life revolves around food. Food is power. Food is home. Food is social.

Yet for those living with celiac disease, food allergies, intolerances, and other medically necessary diets, food can also become a source of stress, isolation, and fear.

This autoimmune disease impacts every aspect of daily life, from food and medication to something as simple as toothpaste. It affects families 24/7 at home, at school, while traveling, and in social settings. Many individuals with celiac disease know the feeling of having to decline invitations, bring their own food, or explain their restrictions repeatedly. Food pressure is real, and it can be emotionally exhausting, especially for children who simply want to feel included.

Starting a gluten-free lifestyle can feel like the Wild West. There is so much to learn, and families are often left navigating it alone.

After transitioning to a gluten-free lifestyle, our family experienced several frightening situations where safe food became scarce during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. We realized how vulnerable families with dietary restrictions can be when access to safe food is limited. Gluten-free and allergy-friendly foods are often difficult to find and significantly more expensive than traditional groceries.

That experience inspired us to create Grain Freedom.

We exist to support individuals and families living with celiac disease, food allergies, intolerances, and other medically necessary diets by providing resources, increasing awareness, expanding access to safe food, and advocating for greater inclusion.

We want families to spend less time stressed about food and more time living fully.

Because everyone deserves a seat at the table and the freedom to thrive.

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals living with celiac disease, food allergies, and other medically necessary diet-related conditions, including Diabetes, by expanding access to safe, nutritious food, education, and advocacy. We strive to end hunger for families navigating medically necessary diets so they can move beyond simply managing and truly thrive with “grain” freedom.

About Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals, where the ingestion of gluten damages the small intestine.

It can cause a wide range of severe symptoms and long-term health complications if left untreated.

Currently, the only treatment for celiac disease is strict adherence to a 100% gluten-free diet.

Celiac disease is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people worldwide, yet approximately 2.5 million Americans remain undiagnosed and are at risk for serious long-term health complications. Today, nearly 3 million Americans are living with the disease.

Diagnosis can be difficult because symptoms vary widely and affect each person differently. Many people have never even heard of celiac disease, leading to delayed diagnoses and misunderstandings about the seriousness of the condition.

Gluten-free food is not a trend. For those living with celiac disease, it is medicine.
